Departing from your and drive about seven and half miles from the small town of Chake chake to the nameless ruined citadel and port, known today as” Pujini” at the east coast of Pemba Island.

The fortunes of Pujini entailed that Mkama Ndume ruled the whole Island with his inhuman cruelty. Mkama Ndume is said to be a Persian Prince then the King of Pemba during the 15th century, until the arrival of the Portuguese who assassinated him. His real name was Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman nicknamed Mkama Ndume (the milker of scrum) because of the harsh punishment he used to give to his people.

The only feature of interest that one can now see from his dynasty is the Mkama Ndume ruins which includes a parapet and rampart well. Today the ruins’ primary feature is a large stone staircase that led from the kilometre-long channel (now dry) connecting this site to the ocean. On the tour you will also see an underground storage chamber, an ancient fallen arch, multiple symbolic shrines, a large reception hall, and a pristine pool of blue water.
